Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Edged trimmed flake - the right hand edge dorsal view has serration/denticulation along it. There is a hinge fracture at the distal end and along the left hand side there is a flat area which acts as backing. Looking at the flake from the ventral side the upper left hand edge shows signs of having been trimmed. The flint is light grey in colour with cream flecks and was likely derived from a local beach pebble. Mercer [1981] illustrates a similar example on page 127, fig 55, No.L93 which is dated to the Neolithic.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An unidentified object made from white metal (not necessarily silver) and probably incomplete. Machine punched so likely to be 19th century or more recent. This artefact has been looked at by National Finds Advisor Helen Geake & Judy Rudoe, Curator of the Modern Collections at the Department of Prehistory & Europe, British Museum. Following discussion the object is thought to be a possible decorative cover for a button, or possibly a cap, perhaps for a walking stick. Alternatively, perforations in the object suggest it could be the lid of a pepper or salt shaker. The object is den…

Stone spindle whorl (a weight used on a spindle for spinning fibres in textile manufacture). The weight is sub-circular in plan, and has a hole drilled through the centre. Object type: FINGER RING

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Roman silver finger-ring. The ring was probably circular or slighly sub-oval in profile with a flattened oval cross section to the loop. The widest part of the loop seems to be undecorated but slightly flattened however there is a small amount of copper-alloy looking corrosion adhering to this part of the loop that masks the original surface and could potentially be hiding decoration if it was in the form of faint incised work. The shoulders are not clearly defined. The finger-ring possibly most closely resembles a Henig 1974 type VI or XII but without a bezel. The bezel…

An incomplete gold dog brooch of uncertain date, possibly early Post-Medieval. This three dimensional brooch seems to have been hollow or at least the body was hollow. The dog is positioned left with the head turned forwards. One ear is missing however the ear nearest the tail survives in good condition. All four legs are missing and there is a break across the chest area that is now filled with mud. The curled tail survives.
