Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A small fragment of a copper alloy unidentified object which may date from the Bronze Age. The fragment is triangular in plan and slightly curved in section. The edges are rounded and worn. One end is thicker than the other. It has a well developed green patina. Though it is not possible to say what object this is part of, the wear, metal and patina suggest a Bronze Age date. Though not associated, the fact that a Bronze Age spear tip was found in an adjacent field may be significant.

Some scalar retouch at the proximal end of the right edge but the distal end of the right edge is lost to a break which has roughly removed the corner leaving damage and chipping on both faces. 37.8mm long, 18.2mm wide, 5.6mm thi…

The shaft hole has been drilled from each side, meeting about halfway across, with the second bore slightly misaligned. The stone is heavily weathered and pitted, with the domed end also showing signs of abrasion. The fragment was found in about 1980 while ploughing.
