Lead spindle whorl. Irregular whorl, either miscast or partly melted, now of bun shape, and with central aperture of diameter 8.1mm. This is (or was) possibly of an Early Medieval form. As with many lead whorls, it would probably be used for plying cord rather than spinning a yarn. Suggested date: Possibly Early Medieval, 750-1000. Diameter: 30.5mm, Thickness: 12.3mm, Weight: 49.59gms.

BURNHAM HOARD 2010 T509: item 9.M Winged Axehead Incomplete cast copper alloy winged axe, the blade end is missing. The butt end has a wide 'H' shaped cross section, which becomes more rectangular towards the broken edge. There are two wings on the upper and lower surfaces which curve towards eachother, but the ends do not touch. There is a side loop which is filled with corrosion products. Length: 69.27mm. The loop is 23.06mm long, 6.41mm thick. 32.70mm wide, 38.03mm thick at central point. 12.54mm thick tapering to 6.19mm on the body. wings are 5.15mm thick. Weight: 222g

Copper alloy brooch fragment. Small hinged Headstud Brooch, albeit the stud is a barely discernible dimple on the upper bow. Tubular wings enclose an axis bar for a hinged pin of which a small stub remains; the stub of a small top loop remains on one side only.The bow is lightly constricted towards the middle, and the catch-plate and foot are lost. Abraded. Suggested date: Early Roman, 100-200. Length: 26.5mm, Width: 14.2mm, Thickness (crest of bow): 4.4mm, Weight: 2.89gms.

Pottery base sherd from a cup. Slipware. A hard dull red fabric with splashed internal and external metallic glaze with an external trail of white slip. The vessel, perhaps a cup, had an estimated diameter of 120mm, with a flat base and a stepped foot. The body is corrugated; lightly on the middle part of the outside, and more prominently within. The area bearing white slip also bears crude knife-cut vertical slashes. The impression is of an individualistic piece. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1700. Weight: 61.87gms.

A copper alloy book clasp of Howsam type A.2, with an integral plate made up of a forked spacer that is missing its soldered-on plates, so only the forked spacer remains. The rest of the clasp consists of an oval terminal with a flat reverse, domed top and with a circular hole in the centre. The forward edge has a lug with a horizontal piercing. Date: Medieval - c. 1350 - 1450. Dimensions: width 44mm, thickness 15mm, weight 6mm, weight: 9.15g.

Copper alloy strap end. Cast zoomorphic split-ended strap end, of slightly waisted form and more elongated than most observed by this reporter. An elongated beast snout terminal with long and pointed lupine ears is, unusually, modelled on both sides. On that less worn side, the eyes are represented by a pair of tiny ring and dot, and whiskers are modelled running across the jowls. Behind the ears a bordered panel of angular interlace extends to the rear split end; it incorporates recurring triangular configurations. An incomplete cast copper alloy terret ring of early Roman date. The terret is comprised of a rectangular attachment loop topped by a lozenge plate bent across the middle. From the top of the plate the worn remains of the loop extend though the loop proper no longer survives. The metal has a light green patina and is worn. The terret is 35.3mm long, 27.5mm wide, 4.2mm thick and weighs 26.5g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy mount of post-medieval date. The mount has a heart shaped body with a domed profile and concave reverse. The pointed end of the heart extends in to an open work trefoil though the two side lobes are now missing due to old breaks. The front of the mount is otherwise undecorated. From the reverse two broken and work attachment spikes project orientated along the longitudinal axis. The metal has a mid reddish-green patina and is worn.
