A probable cast copper alloy strap fitting of late Iron Age date. The ring, which is very slightly ovoid, has a maximum diameter of 35.42mm and maximum thickness of 6.15mm. It weighs 17.31g. Some of the surface is covered in patchy corrosion, but away from this some decoration is visible. On each side there is an inscribed elongated running scroll (a pattern which is paralleled on some Iron Age pottery) and on the edge there is a slightly raised ridge along which there are short parallel lines to give a ribbed effect. The size suggests the ring was not used on horse harness, but may ha…

A cast copper alloy Colchester one-piece brooch, of early Roman date. The brooch was formerly long and narrow, but it is now badly bent out of shape. There is also a recent break just above the spring. Just below the bow is a crossbar which would have protected the spring behind. One side of this is broken and the other is bent. There is also a pointed hook at the top of the bow, which would have held the chord in place. This too has been bent back in the opposite direction to the way it would originally have sat. There were formerly eight coils in the spring, which have now partially …

A cast copper alloy La Tene 1B type brooch, probably dating from between 450 and 250 BC. The coils of the surviving half of the bilateral spring are filled with iron corrosion, probably all that is left of an iron axis bar. Below the spring is the bow. From the front, this is a long oval shape, 29mm by 7.68mm, with two parallel engraved vertical lines down the centre of the front and a furth…
