An extremely worn Medieval silver cut half voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272 AD). Obverse depicts a crowned ruler facing front with comma-shaped side curls, a crown with side pellets and a loose pelleted central fleur (c.f. North 1994, p225, Figs. 1, 4, and 5). Because the coin is cut in half, it is unknown whether the ruler held a sceptre. The reverse depicts a voided long cross with three pellets in each quadrant. The legends on both faces are incredibly worn, leaving a positive identification of this coin open to speculation. A general date can be given for this coin,…

A very worn and bent Medieval silver long cross penny, of unknown ruler, probably from Edward I-III (1272-1377 AD) . The exposed surface is the reverse face, reading: 'CIVI-[TAS] [CAN]-[T]OR, suggesting that the mint was Canterbury. Nothing is visible from the obverse face and the bend in the coin is filled with soil. The style of the 'C' in CIVITAS is open, indicating that it could date to as early as the reign of Edward I (1272-1307 AD); combined with a simple cross pattee and Canterbury mint a ruler later than Edward III is unlikely.

Because of the condition of the coin, a full identification is difficult. However, due to the crown and style of the obverse legend, it is likely that this attribution is correct. Cf. Possibly North and Wren Types 6c1, based upon Lombardic style of letter 'C', remaining pelleted hair curls, crown and annulet eyes. Class 6 types of coinage date from c. 1209-1217; if this coin can be attributed to Type 6c1, it dates more specifically to c. 1215-1216, to the end of John's reign or the very beginning of Henry III. The outside of the cup is fluted along the line of each petal towards the base of the cup. At the centre point of the base there is a small circular hole for the rivet, now missing. Egan and Pritchard (1991) suggest that faceted sexfoil mounts are in common use by the mid-14th century and continue late into the 15th century AD. A rim fragment from a Medieval or Post Medieval cast copper alloy object possibly a vessel, circa 1200-1700 AD. The rim projects outwards to create a raised collar around the rim of the object. Both ends of the object are broken, whilst the side opposite the rim has a highly worn edge suggesting that this fragment of the vessel either suffered from damage during its period of use or that it was created in an unusual form, in a ring. As such it may not have formed part of a vessel. The surface has been treated with a substance by the finder which makes the identification of this vesse…
