A sub-ovoid piece of burnt flint/chert, possibly used as a pot boiler and of possible prehistoric date. The flint has lost most of the external crazed surface due to weathering, but a small area remains next to the surviving cortex. The object has a greyish/white patina with a strip of brown/grey cortex. Length of flint: 45.15 mm. Width: 43.77 mm. Thickness; 31.27 mm. Weight: 65 grams.
FLO comment: The evidence for such stones having been used as pot boilers is limited, and this may simply be an accidentally burned stone.

A medieval silver halfpenny of Edward I (1272-1307). Class 3b or 3e (North 1044 or 1045/1) dating to 1280-1282. Mint of London. North (1991, 32).
Worn, the coin measures 15.17mm in diameter, 0.34mm in thickness and weighs 0.476g. This coin has suffered some minor damage to its circumference: at one point a small bend, and a small loss at another.

A cast copper-alloy hooked tag of early post medieval date, circa 1500-1600.
The plate takes the form of a stylised flower head, with raised central pellet, a surrounding ring of sub-circular perforations and a series of lobes around the perimeter. The damaged hanger comprises an inverted-trapezoidal frame. and the rearward hook is of D-shaped cross section, with a collar at the top.

Fragment of a copper alloy (perhaps high tin bronze) probable scabbard chape with part of a curving edge which is turned over to the rear. The other edges are broken. A Medieval copper-alloy strap loop.
The frame is sub-rectangular, with one of the vertical sides being outward bowing and having a grooved and moulded representation of a crowned bust. A circular-sectioned projection extends outwards from the centre of the opposite end. The frame is of rectangular section and displays evidence of filing.

A copper-alloy La Tène 1Bc type brooch, dating from the 4th to late 3rd century BC.
The flat-sectioned bow is pointed oval in plan, its upper surface decorated by a number of concentric grooves. At the top, the bow tapers into a remnant of the upward-curving spring. At the base, the foot curves back towards the upper surface of the bow, terminating in a stylised, disc-shaped head with inverted-triangular snout. A grooved and rolled pin slot projects outwards from the right-hand side of the foot's downward arm.

A copper-alloy tumbler lock slide key, dating from the Roman period.
The bow consists of a rectangular-sectioned ring which is on the same plane as the cuboidal stem. The top of the bit projects straight downwards from the base of the stem; the lower part of the bit is at a right-angle to the upper part and has two wards and two clefts. The distal end of the bit angles downwards at 90 degrees.
Length: 46.9mm; width: 19.7mm; depth: 11.5mm. Weight: 18.5g.
Similar keys were found in excavations in Colchester (Crummy 1983: 125/fig. 140, nos. 4150, 4153 and 4154).

An undated lead-alloy casting jet.
The piece comprises a flat-surfaced rectangle with a pointed projection at the centre of each of its sides. On the underside is a projecting sprue which appears to have been cut; surrounding this are a number of straight and curved ridges. The upper surface displays a several concentric ridges and grooves.

A post-Medieval copper-alloy barrel tap key.
The lower element of the key is a circular-sectioned plinth which tapers towards a flat base and has a cylindrical perforation just below halfway. This plinth is surmounted by a two-dimensional representation of a standing cockerel.
Height: 42.8mm; length (of cockerel): 23.9mm. Weight: 26g.
A parallel for this tap key is illustrated by Gordon Bailey, who suggests a 17th century date (1995: 62, no. 16).

A post-Medieval copper-alloy mount.
The object comprises a flat-sectioned, rectangular plate with a longitudinal line of three circular perforations at its centre. Two parallel lines of ring-and-dot punchmarks flank these perforations, with smaller rings separating the various elements of the design and a number of short grooves creating a toothed border. The mount would have been attached by two rivets, the iron-filled holes for which are located at either end of the line of perforations. The piece is not flat but has an elongated-S-shaped curvature.

A copper-alloy hooked mount, dating from the Medieval period.
The mount comprises a parallel-sided, triangular-sectioned bar, at the centre of which is a moulded rectangle with grooved saltire in its upper surface. Both ends of the piece terminate in a flat-sectioned fleur-de-lis with circular perforation. One of these lis has been bent upwards; the other has a downward-curving, hooked point which appears to be an original feature. Traces of gilding survive on the upper surface of the piece.

A Roman copper-alloy sexfoil disc brooch with enamelled decoration.
At the centre of the upper surface is a sub-hexagonal cell containing a moulded pellet. The corners of this cell project into six arms, each of which flares towards a rounded lobe. Traces of black enamel can be seen within the central cell, with dark blue enamel filling much of the outer field. The hinge and catchplate are located at opposite ends of the otherwise flat reverse. The object is slightly damaged and has a central bend. The openwork plate takes the form of a stylised flower head in which a ring of petals surrounds a circular ridge, which in turn surrounds a flat area with pierced centre. An inverted-trapezoidal hanger extends upwards from the top of this plate, and a rearward hook projects from the base. This hook is of 'D-shaped' section and has had its point deliberately curved towards its underside, thus blunting it.

A copper-alloy double-loop buckle, dating from the Late Medieval to post-Medieval periods.
The symmetrical frame comprises two 'D-shaped' sides, set back-to-back. The upper surfaces of the frame slope downwards and outwards, and the central axis bar is of triangular section, each end terminating in a knop. The sides angle upwards either side of the axis bar and a number of angled grooves create a ropework design.

The frame is roughly 'D-shaped', its outer side comprising an expanded pin rest in which two angled lobes flank a transverse groove. The bowed sides of the frame have vertical inner faces and convex outer faces; the rectangular-sectioned axis bar is offset.

The frame is 'D-shaped' and has an offset axis bar with moulded knop at either end. The upper surface slopes downwards and outwards; its maximum width is at the centre of the curved outer side, where there is a moulded pin rest with central, 'V-sectioned' groove.
Length: 21.7mm; width: 35mm; thickness: 3.7mm. Weight: 5.72g.
Similar buckles were found at Meols, Merseyside, and were assigned to the late 14th century (Egan, in Griffiths et al 2007: 88/pl. 14, nos. 498 - 500).
