Record ID: NMS-8ED4F5
Object type: INGOT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published
Roughly circular silver ingot with rounded sides and two flat, probably hammered surfaces. The date is unknown, though it is likely to be more than 300 years old. It does not fit well into any of the three weight systems of the Late Saxon period (Kruse 1992, 86-87, Table 1 top line). The findspot is within a site with evidence for intense late Iron Age and Roman activity. The object cannot be considered as a coin blank of either period because it is too heavy. Weight 3.85g. Diameter 10.5 - 11.2mm. Thickness 5.7mm.
Compare NMS-A9CFFD (2016T817), which is almost exactly half the weight.
