An incomplete silver seal matrix dating to the Medieval period, probably 14th century in date. The seal has an oval face with a hexagonal conical handle above. A hexagonal collar divides the handle from a trefoil suspension loop. Part of the oval face has been broken meaning that the inscription is no longer complete. The face of the seal depicts two birds (possibly doves) touching beaks with two flowers either side. In between the two doves is a fleur de lis and below are the legated initials 'AH.' Above the two doves is closed 'C.' The inscription around the perimeter of the face re…

A cast copper alloy seal matrix, probably post medieval date, about AD 1600 - 1700. The matrix face is oval in shape and the stem is conical with an elongated lozenge shaped terminal. There is a circular perforation in the centre of the terminal. The complex device on the matrix is probably a privy mark or merchant's mark. It consists (described from the impression) of an oval shield, delineated by a double border of narrow lines, within which is a cross with arms of equal length above a letter W created from interlinked Vs. The upper limb and left hand arm of the cross are joined at …

The body of the seal is short and fluted, with a cast decorative handle which splits to two outward flaring knops, originally incorporating a suspension loop. The body is decorated with ten segments each containing two raised lozenges, whilst the exterior edges are decorated with foliate detail. The seal matrix has an oval seal face, with central decoration of a laureate and draped bearded bust imitating a classical style, possibly depicting a Classical philosopher. The style of the seal…

An incomplete lead seal matrix of Medieval date (AD 1200-1300), pointed-oval in shape, only half now surviving (lower half). The central motif appears to be an eight-point star or flower. The legend around is between grooved borders, and reads ...ETIS VX PETRI M... (the last three letters are uncertain). This probably orignally read S' AGNETIS VX PETRI M, meaning Seal of Agnes wife of Peter. The reverse is smooth and undecorated. The central break is old and was possibly carried out in order to void the object. The metal is a dark greenish brown. Length: 20.15mm, Width: 23.86mm, …
