An incomplete and highly corroded cast copper-alloy oval single-looped buckle frame, with possible zoomorphic features, of early-medieval to medieval date. The frame is sub-oval in section, and thicker at the outer edge. This tapers into a probable zoomorphic head, with a flattened oval ear, probable eye and an elongated snout from which the narrow strap bar extends. The lower end of this zoomorphic buckle tapers out in opposition to the snout and nose to give the appearance of curvature in the strap bar. Additionally, along the spine of the buckle is a raised linear feature. The buck…

This piece is a scalene triangle with the proximal end probably at the point, but this is hard to tell in the absence of ripples or bulb. The ventral face has no retouch. The dorsal face has long parallel retouch to create a serrated edge. The flint is tan in colour. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble by the look of its secondary cortex. Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar piece on Page 111 Fig 49 No L3 which he calls a geometric scalene triangle microlith and dates to the Mesolithic period.

Part of the foot from a cast, copper alloy, Saxon brooch, probably of the cruciform type, dating from AD450-650. The remaining section is rectangular, flaring slightly towards the foot. There is a raised design consisting of a central, longitudinal ridge dividing into two U-shaped arms at the lower end, each U-shape thus formed containing a large pellet. The upper end of this ridge is also connected to a pellet, the whole, if inverted, giving the impression of a human face. Beneath this design are three raised bands, two broad and one narrow, separated by transverse grooves. There is a…
