Broad period: ROMAN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Fragment from a Roman ceramic vessel. The sherd is part of the flange from near the rim, and the wall of the vessel. The fabric is hard, fine and has a reduced core with oxidised surfaces. There are small and well sorted quartz inclusions with grey grains, and occasional, sometimes large white pieces. The area above the flange is missing. The flange remains level as it tapers to a point. The wall of the vessel curves steeply, perhaps suggesting a fairly shallow bowl. The diameter of the flange is about 150 - 160mm.

A fragment of a glass vessel, perhaps a bottle. The glass is pale green and contains some air bubbles. It is thickly patinated with an iridescent surface. The breaks are also patinated. The fragment curves but has no diagnostic features. It was found in an area producing lots of Roman finds, but it is not certain whether this is Roman or later. The thickness of the wall may suggest a Post Medieval date.
