Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint pebble end-scraper, oval in plan, rectangular in profile and lozenge in section. Bulb on ventral face, with retouch on the right edge and snapped on the left of the distal end. Scraper retouch on the remaining three quarters of the distal end on the dorsal face, with notched right edge. Possible a re-used blade. The flint is honey grey colour with lighter flecks. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 127, Fig. 51, No. 1, which is dated to the earlier Neolithic.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset

Possible crude scraper of mid grey flint with a mid grey patination, small pale mottles and medium patches of iron staining. The scraper is worked from a proximal fragment with the bulb of percussion on the ventral face visible and faint ripples across the surface. There are long paralell removals across the ventral face. There is short, semi abrupt retouch worked from the dorsal face spanning c.35% of the circumference. It measures 34.3mm long, 35.2mm wide, 12.5mm thick and weighs 15.56g. It probably dates to the later Neolithic or Bronze Age, 2500-800 BC.

Large scraper of mid grey flint with a light grey patination, large pale mottles and small patches of iron staining. The scraper is worked from a proximal fragment with the bulb of percussion on the ventral face visible. There is also a large flake removal across the bulb of percussion from the striking platform. There is short, semi abrupt retouch worked from the ventral face spanning c.50% of the circumference. There are also areas of long retouch in the corners at the distal end extending into the middle of the scraper. It measures 38.3mm long, 34.6mm wide, 16.4mm thick and weigh…

Early Bronze Age scraper of dark grey flint with a light grey patination on a secondary flake. An area of less than 5% of the surface has remaining cortex. The scraper is worked from a proximal fragment with the bulb of percussion on the ventral face visible. There is also a bulbous scar at the proximal end from the striking platform. There is semi abrupt retouch worked from both the ventral to the dorsal face across both edges spanning c.25% of the circumference. The distal end has small flake removals. It measures 27.1mm long, 18.5mm wide, 6.6mm thick and weighs 4.41g. It dates fr…

Flint pebble scraper, ovoid in plan and plano convex in profile. The dorsal side is convex and contoured by flake removal. The left margin has semi-abrupt retouch while the right margin is cortex. The proximal end is fractured. On the ventral side the left half is cortex and the right margin retouched. There is also a small central cavity. The flint is mid grey in colour with a secondary cortex of cream tones. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 166, Fig. 70, No. 11 which is dated to the Neolithic period.
