Complete flint blade of probable earlier Mesolithic date (6500BC - 4500BC). The flint blade is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and triangular (crested) in cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are present on the upper of the ventral (lower) face. The lower (pointed) end shows evidence of retouch using a direct percussion from a hammerstone. One of the long edges also shows evidence of retouch, although this maybe an artificial artefact caused by movement in the ploughsoil. The flint is a mid creamy grey colour. Five blades of varying lengths and thicknesses of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). The sections of the blades vary, some are triangular (crested) whilst others are flatter lentoid shaped. All have multiple linear facets on the dorsal faces and conchoidal fractures on the ventral. Some are snapped, others still possess their bulbs of percussion / striking platforms. Incomplete worked flint, Mesolithic/Neolithic. Light grey flint with mid grey mottling and the start of white patination. Soft hammer bulb on ventral surface. Three longitudinal flake scars on dorsal surface. Right hand dorsal end has vertical flake removed. Length 43.46mm, width 12.2mm, thickness 4.5mm (c.7mm as curved), weight 2.08g. A very similar flint, although larger (length 68.4mm, width 14.1mm, thickness 6.0mm (as curved c.16mm), weight ) is in Derby Museum's collections, accession no. 1978-952/24, from Castle Pit Hill, Melbourne & said to be Mesolithic
