Lead hemispherical weight. Cast plano-convex weight with longitudinal perforation, tapering from 7mm diameter on the flat base to 3.5mm diameter at the apex. This may have been intended for attachment of a suspension loop. Of two hemispherical weights from Early Medieval Flixborough, one is unperforated but the other is of similar diameter to this example and is equipped with an iron loop; it comes from a context of supposedly Viking-Age date though with residual material present - careful review (by Ian Riddler) has cast doubt on the likelihood of an Anglo-Scandinavian phase at Flixbo…

Fine sandy clay buff fabric with oxidised external surface and apparently reduced core, forming a slightly wedge-shaped object with a broader slightly concave end, and a narrower flattened end. Pottery Bodysherd of shell-tempered fabric, possibly from a hand-made vessel. The inner surface is black; the outer surface is oxidised to a pale orange-buff colour. The diameter of the vessel, at least where this sherd comes from, would be about 140mm. Despite the coarse fabric, there is no sign of external sooting, and therefore no evidence that this was from a vessel used as a cooking pot. Sandra Firth kindly examined this sherd, suggesting a possible Roman date. Suggested date: Later Iron Age to Early Roman, -300 to 200. Length: 43.19mm, Thickness: 8.7mm, Weight: 18.04gms.

A corroded iron T-shaped lift key from a Roman tumbler lock. The key is of the form numbered '1' in Manning's (1985, 91; fig. 25) typology:the stem is rectangular in cross-section andterminates with an achor-shaped bit with a single tooth on either side of the stem. The suspension loop at the top is missing. A wide Roman date has been given since such keys have emerged from different archaeological contexts and because the form is an enduring one (see below, 'Notes').
