Incomplete cast copper alloy double looped buckle of post-medieval date (1550-1650). The buckle frame is broken and one loop is lost. What remains is broadly sub-rectangular in plan with a slight integrally cast central bar to which a pin would have been attached. The pin is lost but would have been attached to the central bar by the terminal being folded back upon itself. The pin / attached strap fitting was probably made of iron judging from the concreted iron corrosion on the reverse face. There is a slight recessed pin rest on the frame, although this coincides with abrasion and d…

The loop has a pale green patina whilst the buckle plate is more heavily corroded with a brown/green patina and much surface corrosion.

A cast, copper alloy, double loop asymmetrical buckle, dating from c. 1575-1700. There are lobed knops at two symmetrical points on the outer edge of the rounded loop. The frame of the buckle is somewhat corroded, but the inner and outer edges of the frame were possibly bevelled. The frame is bent upwards at the outer edges, suggesting it was a knee or spur buckle. The pin and plate are missing. The buckle has a light brown patina and an area of rust in the centre of the bar; the remains of the pin. It is 22.9mm long, 18.7mm wide and 4mm thick. It weighs 2.42gm. See Whitehead, Buckles…

A cast, copper alloy, single loop, D-shaped buckle with a lipped frame and a narrowed strap bar, dating from the medieval period. The lip is notched to act as a pin rest. A folded, copper alloy plate remains in situ and has corroded on to the strap bar. There is one copper alloy fastening rivet in the plate: this remains in place. Cast copper alloy double looped buckle of probable post-medieval date (1620-1680). The buckle frame is complete and is broadly rectangular in plan with a central bar. From the short edge of the frame two triangular shaped wedges extend. The pin is lost but probably formed from a single sub-rectangular tapering length of copper alloy which is attached to the central bar by the end being folded to form an irregular ‘wrap around’ loop. There is no evidence for a recessed pin rest on the frame. At the centre of the buckle, above the axis bar are two small rounded knops. The reverse of…
