A cast copper-alloy stud of early Post-Medieval date. It has a circular, dome-shaped head with moulded decoration on the front face and an integrally cast rivet on the back face. The decoration consists of a central raised dot surrounded by a beaded ring, perhaps in imitation of filigree. Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset

Complete gilded copper alloy cruciform harness pendant. The pendant is in the shape of a cross pattee quadrate. The outer face retains traces of gilding. In the central section, largely obscured by erosion, are sixteen small squares, arranged in rows of four - maybe the owner's arms, but impossible to make out. The remains of gilding extends into three of the arms. Within this, particularly on the lower arm, where the largest proportion of gilding survives, it is possible to see the remains of a pattern, although the detail of this is now impossible to make out. Extending from the uppe…

An almost complete cast copper-alloy Roman zoomorphic figurine in the form of a bull (AD 43-410). The animal is probably cast hollow. It is in a recumbent position, with its head turned through 90° to the body and facing forward. It is truncated at the rear and is finished with a flat rim that would have abutted another object. The hollow part is filled with lead alloy but this is at a slightly lower level than the rim. There is a triple vertical groove around the girth at the front and the tail curves around the right rear leg, resting between the thigh and the vertical grooves. Bot…
