Flint scraper, probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Secondary flake. The object is roughly semi-circular in shape. It has a few flaking scars on the dorsal face. Along the right edge of the dorsal face, long, scaled, low angle retouch can be seen. On the left side of the dorsal face are a series of stepped removals and along the left edge is very fine, sub-parallel, abrupt retouch. There is a small amount of cortex remaining on the distal end of the dorsal face. The flint is mid-grey in colour, with lighter patches in places and a slightly shiny patina. The butt and bulb are…

Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester type one-piece brooch dating to the first century AD. The brooch is bent and missing its spring and pin - it has a damaged openwork catchplate and a forward facing hook. The brooch is oval in section, thicker at the wings and narrowing towards the foot. The bow is bent but would have measured c.61mm in length. The wings on this example are short (12.43mm) and there are possibly three vertical ribs for decoration visible on one side.

Flint scraper, probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Tertiary flake. The object is sub-circular in shape. There are a few parallel flaking scars on the dorsal face. On the left side of the dorsal face part of a very small clear quartz crystal geode can be seen embedded into the flint. This has been split open during the knapping process leaving only a small portion of the complete geode in place. Within this several tiny crystals can be seen. A degree on wear around this, particularly on the ventral face, suggests that this may have been deliberately used as a further feature…

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy mount of unknown age but dating from the late Iron Age to Roman period. One end of the mount is missing but it appears that it would have mirrored the two openwork circles that are extant; it was initially thought that this was a phallus mount but it does not appear so - it bears some similarities to middle and later Iron Age brooches but otherwise no comparison had been found in the available literature. There are no obvious mounting or attachment points on the reverse.

The upper part of the bow and head of a Roman bow brooch, probably of developed T-shaped type. The wings are complete although the pin is missing. The wings are tubular, completely enclosing a hinged pin. The wings are wide, spanning 35.21 mm. The upper part of the bow is very angular in style, projecting horizontally back from the wings and then jutting downwards quite abruptly. On the head, just behind and between the wings, a vertical projection rises and is clearly broken. Based on other examples of developed T-shaped brooches, it seems likely that this projection would once have b…
