Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Medieval copper alloy square harness pendant. The pendant has a central suspension loop at the top. The front is decorated with a raised design of a lion passant on a blue enamel ground. The head is unclear so it is uncertain as to whether it is guardant or not. The lion is set within a circle and both the lion and the area outside the circle are gilded. The back is plain and has a patchy light green patina. It measures 27.7mm x 17.4mm x 2.9mm, weighing 5.17g. Similar examples on the database are NLM-E16757 and SF-891E43, which date this type of Heraldic pendant to 1250-1450AD.

Object type: STYLUS
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Doncaster
Workflow stage: Published
A copper alloy stylus of probable early-medieval date. The shaft is circular in cross-section with the end flattened and flared into a triangular shape to form an eraser. The point end has been broken in antiquity, part of the shaft has also been slightly bent. The shaft is thicker in the centre to create an easier grip. It is undecorated and measures 88.6mm x 16.6mm x 4.6mm, weighing 14.55g. It has a light green patina.
Undecorated styli are not easy to date, but the flat triangular eraser is commoner on early-medieval styli; it may alternatively be Roman. Compare SWYOR-2ED160.

Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An early medieval, cast copper alloy zoomorphic strap end. The object is tapering and rectilinear in shape. One end is broken and therefore does not show the split for the strap and the rivets to attach it. The strap end tapers to a rounded end in the shape of a small animal head with its snout at the terminal; with two slightly raised protrusions for the eyes and a brow ridge. These is some evidence of incised geometric decoration on the front of the strap end, most of which has been worn away. The strap end shares some characteristics with Thomas Class b, type I (Thomas, G, FRG Data…
