Record ID: SUSS-34A407
Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A struck flint flake with small amounts of retouch at the distal end. The flake is a tertiary piece with several arises on the dorsal face. In the centre of the ventral face is a large hole, part of a natural flaw in the flint. The piece has a large striking platform and appears to have been crudely struck using a hard hammer. The sides curve outwards before narrowing to a point. The point has been enhanced by some short, abrupt, parallel retouch on the distal end of the dorsal face. The flaw in the flint, however, and the unretouched, irregular sides, suggest this piece was not shape…

Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A slightly worn body sherd of prehistoric date, probably from a Middle Bronze Age urn. The sherd is irregular, but roughly four sided. The clay has been tempered abundantly with quite fine flint. The external surface has become oxidised to a mid-light orange colour which contrasts with the black of the internal face which is also the colour of most of the profile. As the fragment is fairly undiagnostic the date and original vessel form remain tentative.

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Powys

This is a (very) small early Bronze Age/late Neolithic perforated stone axe hammer. The axe is in the form of a ‘teardrop’ with a parallel profile. The perforation is ‘egg timer’ shape, opening from a central diameter of 13.5 mm to 20.7 mm at the outer surface. The overall style is consistent with an early class 1 Axe Hammer from Roe’s ‘Typology of Stone Implements with Shafts’. However, whilst the profile fits, the size does not. This object is very small at just 7.32 cm long, the more typical axe hammer is double that and more. This particular implement may t…
