Complete cast copper-alloy Later Medieval dagger chape. The chape has been formed by the curling round of a single sheet of copper-alloy into a cone shape with slits in the nose so that the edges fold to a point. Two holes are punched into the upper edge of the chape for attachment to the body of the scabbard. Chapes of this type are typically dated c.1300-1500 AD.

Early Medieval silver coin, early Secondary Phase. Series G sceat (Type 3a, North ref: 43). The obv. shows a diademed bust R. with cross before. The reverse shows a standard with pellet in annulet at the centre and a cross in each angle. The coin is a probable contemporary copy or 'imitative'. The metal appears to be debased with the corrosion indicative of a copper component.

The item is essentially an elongated triangular shape with two circular rivet holes at the base of the triangle and a further single rivet hole at the tip of the elongated (round-ended) apex. A fragment of a pair of cast copper-alloy tweezers of probable mid-late Anglo-Saxon date. The portion remaining is one half of the sub-triangular pincers. The tweezer edge has a slightly curled over end. The exterior is decorated with ring and dot design. Tweezers of this type are typically dated as Anglo-Saxon but similiar examples are known from Roman contexts. In this case the close association of other Anglo-Saxon material makes the later date more likely. Dated c.700-900 AD.

A worn and corroded incomplete cast copper-alloy mid-late Anglo-Saxon strap end. The strap-end is essentially a flat oval in shape with a break at the point where the V shaped split, which forms the attachment for such items, would have been. The reverse is plain and the front carries a pointed zoomorphic head with snout and flattened ears as the terminal whilst the main body of the strap-end was probably decorated with interlacing design but is now too corroded to be certain. This type of strap end falls into the classification category Thomas Class A (probably Type 1). Dated c.700-900 AD.

Body sherd of a thick-walled coarse ware vessel. It is grit-tempered and finished with a black slip on the outside. The fragment which survives is off the upper part of the shoulder where it meets the neck. Due to thickness and fabric it is likely that this comes off an Iron Age vessel.

Foot of cast cu-alloy early Roman brooch dating from ca. AD50-100, probably from a Polden Hill type. Only the foot and rest for pin survive. The foot ends in a small moulded head stud and the upper body/bow is much thicker than the foot plate. The pin rest is curved and its underside decorated with three bundles of two grooves each.

The button is in good condition, with little wear or corrosion. It measures 16.98mm long, 10.70mm in diameter and weighs 3.6g. The button dates to the 16th to 17th centuries.

Incomplete cast copper alloy Late Iron Age to early Roman mortar - the lower part of a pestle & mortar set, sometimes referred to as woad or cosmetic grinders. The item is crescent shaped with a a domed based and a shallow oval groove recessed in to the top and a cast-in broken loop at one end. The item is quite corroded but where the patina remains it is of a deep dark green colour.
