An incomplete cast copper alloy and gilded mount of Post-Medieval seventeenth century date (AD 1600 – AD 1700). Length: 24.8mm; width: 17.3mm and 9.0mm thick. Weight: 3.53g. The mount is lozenge-shaped in plan and is slightly convex at the front and slightly concave at the rear. At the front it is decorated with a border of pellets which encloses a pattern of informal lines of similar pellets. The rear face has two integral spikes on the longitudinal centre-line. Fragment of Roman copper alloy Trumpet Brooch, consisting of the head and part of the upper bow only. The head loop is missing, as is the spring mechanism and pin. The head is oval in shape, measuring 26.5x17mm. To the reverse is a rectangular depression for the spring (behind the bow projection) measuring 8.9x6.2x2mm. It is C-shaped in section. On one side the lug which would have held the axis bar has broken across the piercing. An open-ended gilt copper-alloy ring of possible late Early-medieval date. There is much debate as to the function and date of these artefacts. They are thought by some to be ear-rings; however, the thickness of the terminals would seem to make them unsuitable for this purpose and a more likely explanation is that they are finger-rings.
