A complete and corroded cast copper alloy mount of seventeenth century date (AD 1600 – AD 1700). Length: 27.2mm; width: 14.4mm and 11.1mm thick. Weight: 3.59g.
The main body of the mount is convex at the front and slightly concave at the rear. The main body is sub-oval in plan and at one end there is a trefoil knop. A smaller knop at the opposite end is sub-triangular in shape, although this feature may be incomplete due to corrosion. An incomplete silver gilt mount. The report from James Robinson at the British Museum is as follows: A Medieval mount in two parts. The larger part contains a roundel, which would have been central to the whole. From this radiate four bands of five strokes, two of which are interrupted by the break. At each end there is a small protrusion which may have formed a means of attachment.
