An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends), Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b, 4c, Plate 46. An incomplete copper alloy Roman Trumpet brooch dating from 45 - 200AD. The bow of the brooch has an angular profile and an angular D shaped cross section. The bow tapers from a flared head to a turned foot knop. The brooch measures 69.2mm in length, 17.4mm width (across head), 12.8mm width (across bow) is 11.9mm thick (across bow), and weighs 31.1 grams.
The head of the brooch is complete, oval in plan, and tapers into the bow. The reverse of the head has a cast projecting bar which divides the head into two parts. This bar is also complete and has a circular pierced hole through …

Incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative brooch of Roman date (43-150AD). The wings are semi-cylindrical with perforated wing / end caps. One of the wing caps is incomplete and the axis bar and spring are present. The spring is formed from a length of copper alloy wire which has been turned tweleve times and attached to the head of the brooch by both the axis par and an external chord to a rearward facing hook. Copper alloy brooch, equal-ended type with lozenge shaped plate and zoomorphic terminals. Missing terminal with pin loop and pin; incomplete lozenge shaped plate. The snake head terminal has a punched dot eyes, punched V-shapes for scales and a strong V-shaped moulding at the neck. The central lozenge has two concentric circles of copper alloy at the middle, both containing orange enamel. A medieval copper alloy annular brooch with four turret shaped settings empty for probably glass 'gems'. On opposing sides of the frame are two small rectangular plates riveted on with pronounced, central knops. These are decorated with two rows of a punched design. The pin is missing but there is a hole through the frame where it was looped. Margeson [Norwich Households, p16] dates broches of this type to around 1275 to 1400.

A copper alloy Roman brooch with a raised, circular socket that may have held an enamel or glass setting, that is now missing. The empty socket has a central deoression. There are three concentric borders, stepped down from the centre and decorated with punched transverse lines. The outer border has a small, flat 'D' shaped lug on one side that was probably mirrored on the damaged opposite edge.
