Fragment of Iron Age harness fitting. The main part is crescentic, of rounded section and decorated on both sides. A scar at both ends of the crescent show that a small projection has been broken off. Just back from both ends of the crescent project round sectioned integrally cast bars, both curving to a break. On both sides decoration consists of a very slightly recessed crescentic area containing upstanding dots (seven on one side and eight on the other) against a background off cast or engraved basket-weave pattern. Medieval copper alloy harness mount: a large circular enamelled stud with incomplete, bent, integral attachment shank on reverse. The front, partly obscured by corrosion products, is decorated with a sexfoil in the centre of two interlaced triangles forming a six-pointed star, all set within a circle. There are slight indications that spaces between the points and the circle were also decorated. The circle, the lines outlining the triangles, and the space between the sexfoil and the surrounding hexagon are filled with dark enamel. One speck of gilding suggests that the reserved areas …
