An Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) copper alloy arm from a pair of tweezers (5th-6th century). The arm has been made from copper alloy sheet that flares to a width of 13.67mm, before the end curves in at approximately 90 degrees. It has broken across the loop and the shape has been distorted through damage. The front surface is decorated with two incised lines, one running down each side forming a border. Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper-alloy lozenge shaped mount most likely to be medieval in date. Measuring 19.3mm by 18.3mm in size with a convex front face and a hollow back face it measures 6.8mm in height. There is a central circular hole through the mount, which would presumably have originally accomodated a rivet. There is also a small rectangular flat protrusion from one corner which perhaps also allowed it to be attached to a strap or belt. The other corners are worn and it is unclear whether they had protrusions originally or not.

The sherd is a portion of a rim, possibly from a cooking pot. The rim, in profile is angular, forming an inverted ā€˜Lā€™ shape. The sherd probably dates to the Medieval period. The fabric is hard, and the surface is a dark grey/black colour. This maybe due to smoke, rather than the colour of the fabric. There are frequent white flecked inclusions which may be shell, there are also occasional large dark grey/black inclusions. The core is a dark grey, with mid grey margins and red surfaces beneath the probable smoke discolouration. The sherd weighs 28.9g and is slightly …
