The sherd is a portion of a rim, of an unknown type of vessel. The vessel is a utilitarian type of vessel rather than table ware. The rim, in profile is curvaeous, and is similar shape to a mushroom. It has a bulbous 'head' in prfoile with a narrowed body beneath. The sherd is either Roman or Medieval. The fabric is a reduced ware. hard, and the surface has a mottled grey/black colour. This maybe due to smoke, rather than the colour of the fabric. There are no obvious inclusions. The fabric is otherwise a mid grey colour. The sherd weighs 22.2g and is slightly abraded.
