A complete copper-alloy sheet rivet, used to repair splits in sheet vessels. It has the characteristic uneven hexagonal outline and is folded from a cut lozenge shape. It measures 28.4mm in length and 17.2mm in width. It has a black patina due exposure to an open fire, it is therefore most likely that this rivet was used to repair a cooking vessel of some kind, which then continued to be used in an open fire. Similar folded rivets of this kind are known from Covehithe, Suffolk (see SF-B865E2) and medieval excavations in London, they were used on copper-alloy sheet vessels from the earl…

A fragment of a lead seal matrix most likely to be circa 13th-century, 16.6mm in surviving width and 14.6mm in surviving height. This fragment has a curved edge and the original matrix is likely to have been circular - roughly a quarter of it now survives. On the back the integral suspension loop is set at right angles to the matrix survives. On the front face there is a flower in the centre and a border inscription, reading S'IOH[ ]. This is therfore a personal seal and the inscription means, 'seal of Ioh...' (the rest of the individual's name is now missing).

The frame is circular and has a rectangular cross-section it measures 19.4mm in external diameter and 14.5mm in internal diameter. The pin is attached via an open loop and there is no pin constriction, it can therefore move freely around the frame. However, one area of the frame is worn and this appears to be where the pin was situated whilst it was in use. The pin is made of wire and tapers to a point, which overhangs the frame. Both the pin and frame are worn and have…
