Hammered silver sovereign penny of Henry VIII, Durham mint, 1526-44, under Bishop Cuthbert Tunstall. The obverse shows the King enthroned, holding orb and sceptre, and reads H D G ROSA [SIE S]PIA, initial mark a six-pointed star. The reverse shows the Royal shield over a long cross which divides the legend, with a C to the left of the top half of the shield and a D to the right. It reads CIVI/TAS/DVR/[H]A[M], no initial mark. Diameter 15.92mm, thickness c.0.5mm, weight 0.58g.
