Possible copper alloy finger ring. The hoop has a sub-circular section and a swollen bump in one part. This could be a very crude representation of a snakes head but is more likely just the point at which the ring has been soldered together or finished off as there are no clear zoomorphic features. The ring weighs 1.1g and measures 21.4mm in diameter. The hoop measures approximately 1.8mm in thickness.

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete copper-alloy signet finger ring. Measuring 27mm in external diameter and 20mm in internal diameter. The hoop is decorated with two parallel circumferencial mouldings. The bezel is oval in shape 18mm by 13mm in size. It has a deep boarder groove and within this an indented design. This design seems to depict the head of St John the baptist on a platter, a design more commonly seen on 14th century seal matrices. This signet finger ring is most likely to be late 15th or 16th century in date.
