Record ID: IOW-BCC240
Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Published
Eighteen sherds of coarse ware pottery of Roman date. Hand made and not high-fired. Four base sherds weigh 410g. and fourteen body sherds weigh 372g. Total weight 782g.
The breaks are old. However, some of the sherds join together. The outside of fabric is a dark grey/black colour and has two orange coloured margins within. The tempering is rounded quartz with silver mica. All the sherds appear to belong to a single vessel and it can be estimated that the base of the vessel, when complete, was about 10cm in diameter.
