A worn and incomplete hook-piece from an early Anglo-Saxon wrist-clasp of Hines’s Form B13. It now consists of a copper-alloy plate only, and is rectangular in shape, measuring 34.13mm in length and 12.41mm in width. The rear edge is now very worn, and therefore incomplete, as is the hook, which projects from the centre of the front of the plate, measuring 13.22mm by 3.1mm in size. Despite its wear the rear edge does not appear to have been shaped, and was probably originally straight, as it is now. There are two circular perforations, both incomplete due to wear, which are at ei…

The upper part of a book clasp of Howsam type A.9.2, of composite construction, with a separate copper-alloy circular ring. The fragment of clasp is a hollow lozenge and the lower part, the attachment plate, is largely missing. The rear face and the central lozenge appear to be separate items and both appear to have been joined to the main body using a white metal solder. The central lozenge is formed of a different metal to the rest and is now a dull red. The lowest surviving part of the object is flat and shows the remains of cross-hatched decoration. A closely similar, though sm…

A fragment of a flat, perhaps originally rectangular lead plate with moulded decoration and a small circular perforation. On one surface, the letters 'P Q R S T' are visible, with a line above and below. There is a further row of letters or numbers below these, but these are illegible except for the final two which may read '2 8'. On the other side, there is a pattern of concentric circles, with ring and dot between them. This may be a fragment of the lead equivalent of a 'horn book' used in the early post medieval period as a means of learning the alphabet. A similar lead example …
