Lead papal bulla with inscription GRE/GORIVS/P.P.VIIII (for Pope Gregory the Ninth, 1227-1241 AD) with a beaded surround. On the other face is shown the portraits of St Paul (SPA) and St Peter (SPE) in double beaded surrounds, and St Peter with beaded beard. A cross shown between the two panelled portraits. The lead has a rich sandy-coloured patination. The diameter is 37mm and the greatest thickness is 5mm. The object is bent or curved over and has a scar where the metal has been exposed, having suffered a recent strike, probably by the plough.

Small copper alloy mount 25mm in length (incomplete), with a pointed, come-shaped terminal 14mm long and 9mm wide at the shoulder, proceeding from a shank 5mm wide and 12mm long. At the end of the shank away from the terminal the mount has been bent and broken away. A single pin passed through the terminal, as can be seen from the back of the mount where the hole for it is apparent. The flat undersurface of the mount shows it was made to lie upon a wooden or leathern surface, perhaps on a small casket.
