The pendant is a lozenge shaped plate with a transverse suspension loop projecting from the top with a drilled circular hole. The pendant is decorated on both sides; incised on the back and moulded on the front. Both faces have traces of gilding. The front, with the loop to the top of the image, appears to show an animal within foliage; possibly a monkey, squirrel or cat facing left with limbs extending forward as if to clutch a branch surrounded by possible leaves to represent a tree. The back also appears to show an animal within a line border, possibly a lion or griffin, facing right with the head at the top, the tail curved up then down ending in four tufts in the left corner, the curled lower legs fitted into the lower corner and the upper limbs in the right corner. On the back the design is orientated with the loop to the bottom of the image. It measures 41.3mm long, 28.0mm wide, 5.6mm thick at the loop, 1.8mm at the plate and weighs 6.31g.

While some harness pendants date from the late 12th century the majority are 13th-14th century in date Griffiths (1986:1). The decoration is in the form of an inverted symmetrical foliate design with two side lobes gathered together either side of a central lobe. There is a moulded ball to each side of the point at which the design is gathered. There are further small pellets between the lobes and a moulded U-shaped curve above.

This fragment dates to the late 17th/early 18th-century. It has an oval plate orientated transversely with three small circular loops for attachment by sewing and one larger loop which engaged with the hook-piece. The sewing loops are located one centrally at the base, now abraded through, two at the other end flanking the main loop, protruding to each side, one broken through. Vestiges of the main rectangular loop survive, as this too has been broken. The base of this loop consists of moulded swags that converge. The main field on the upper surface is decorated with a design moulded in low relief within a ropework border. There is a central six-petalled flower from which bars emerge at the cardinal points. The longer bars terminate in smaller flowers, with a leaf in each quarter's angle. The lower surface is flat and plain.

This fastener is the companion eye-piece to a hook-piece published by Read (2008, 173; ref. 651) which he classifies as his Early post-medieval Class A, Type 2. See ref. NARC-20B077 on this database for a complete example of an eye-piece. This artefact has corroded to a red-brown colour and is largely covered in areas of tinning and some off-white patches.
