Lead alloy possible handle fragment. A cast object slightly tapered from a round base or end, broken at the other end. One side of the tapering part is rounded and the other flat, perhaps a relict of an originally cylindrical form with a central hollow. This might be apt to the handle of a tanged knife or other item of cutlery, and would imply a rather massy piece when complete. Fiercely abraded. The metal retains a greyish tint. This part has a projecting straight-sided lug whose other side is thickened and bevelled with a short projecting flange. The stub of a pin on the underside of this part suggests it to be a fixing point while its thickness indicates a mechanical function or an intention that it should withstand stress.
