A Post Medieval silver sixpence, possible dating c. AD 1660-1700. The coin appears purposefully smoothed possibly to form a 'love token' although the coin does not appear to have been bent. There appear to be a number of lines etched onto the coin. Due to the abrasion, the monarch and reverse are uncertain. Bust facing right.
The coin measures 20 mm in diameter, 0.76 mm in thickness. It weighs 2.34 grams.

The coin is very worn and displays two sub-parallel straightned folds suggesting it may have been repurposed as a love token.
DUR-735B12 notes that: "Love tokens' were made using coins dating from the time of Elizabeth I (AD 1558-1603) to the reign of Anne (AD 1702-1714) with some Georgian examples and some as late as the Victorian period. The coin is pierced with a large hole punched through the back of the King's neck, having a diameter of 2.7mm. Compare number 3386 on page 339 of Spink's Standard catalogue (2011). Measurements are; diameter 17.3mm, thickness 0.8mm and weight 12.44g. The perforation has a diameter of 2.7mm.
