The rectangular frame for taking a strap is broken, with only the bases of the arms projecting from the body of the clasp.<\/p>\n<p>The surface has scrolling vegetal motif in relief, though obscured by corrosion. The underside of the clasp retains a thick, compact layer of iron corrosion.<\/p>\n<p>The decoration suggests a late 16th or 17th century date. The doll has a domed face with eyes and nose in relief, framed by flaring collar to each side and a row of curled hair above. A pearl necklace separates the face and the body, which has a strip of square panels running down each side and the centre of the chest, between a pair of domed breasts. The arms emerge from the shoulder and bend down at the elbow in narrow sleeves, such that each arm is shaped like the number 7. The baseplate consists of a rectangular base with grooved, moulded decoration above the two cylindrical lugs. The base is surmounted by a pair of feather-like shapes with scrolled bases that form an openwork triangle. The circular perforation of the scrolled bases may have originally taken nails for fix the baseplate to something.<\/p>\n<p>The swivelplate has a cylindrical lug, centrally placed on the base and fitting between the two lugs of the baseplate. The base of the swivelplate matches that of the baseplate and is surmounted by a triangle with an extended projection with a rounded terminal, though this is incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>The damaged terminal of the swivel plate and the openwork triangle of the baseplate have both been subject to bending\/twisting, probably as a result of the removal of the hinge. Each link is connected to two further links, but in a more complex arrangement than a simple end-to-end connection. Two S-shaped linked touch end-to-end and are then connected by a third link perpindicular to the face of the other links. One end of the S of the third link passes through the ends of the other two links, with the opposite end of the S of the third link passing through the opposite end of the 2nd link. In this fashion, each link overlaps by about 2\/3s with another link.<\/p>\n<p>Each individual link is 32mm in length, 11.60mm in width and 4.5mm in thickness.
