A complete cast copper alloy ring, possibly an Iron Age baldric ring or strap fitting. The ring is circular, with a circular section. The lower half of the ring shows signs of wear, presumably where the strap has rubbed on the metal. Attached to the upper part of the ring, on one side is a disc shaped button, it projects outwards from the ring at a right angle. The disc is largely flat, but is slightly rounded. The button is undecorated, just like the ring.<\/p>

A cast copper-alloy Iron Age linch pin terminal, which is the foot of the pin. The foot has a deep circular socket, inside a cylindrical, tapering shaft. The aperture at the open end of the linch pin is now empty, this would once have held the iron pin, it has long since corroded away, leaving behind iron staining and pitted remains. The exterior of the shaft is cylindrical and bulbous, with a collar around the open end. The shaft tapers to a waisted area, before expanding and altering direction to form the flat circular plate. The flat plate terminal sits on the same plan as the side of the shaft. It is undecorated. The surface of the object is pitted but remains in a good condition, with a mid brownish-green patina. <\/p>

Linch pin terminals date to the late Iron Age period, circa 100BC to 50AD. Sometimes this shaped terminal of a composite linch pin is known as 'hoof' type terminal (Hutcheson, N. 2004 Later Iron Age Norfolk: Metalwork, landscape and society B.A.R. 361 p. 109). Hutcheson illustrates similar examples, No. 46, and dates these to circa 100BC to circa 100AD. The closest local parallels can be seen in Stead, p44-6. A fragment of a cast copper alloy terret ring. The terret has a straight bar, which is sub-rectangular in section. There is a break at this section and the break is very worn. One of the vertical collars can be seen. The collar is flat on the bar side of the collar, but more flared on the side adjacent to the ring. Only the root of one side of the ring survives.
\nThe metal is a dark jade-green colour and is slightly pitted.

An incomplete cast copper alloy object dating from the late Iron Age to early Roman period, possibly a button and loop fastener or a slide strap. The object comprises a plate of copper alloy with a wide rim on the front, with a central circular motif, with a raised cross formed from uprights of copper alloy. These lines therefore create four quadrant cells each one has been infilled with enamel. Two opposite quadrants are a mid orangey-yellow enamel, alternated with a duller mid reddish-orange. On the reverse of the rim are two parallel raised scars, which appear to be break scars, from the larger attachment. An incomplete cast copper alloy button and loop fastener, of Wild\u2019s Classification type II \u2018Ring-headed fasteners\u2019. The loop survives intact. It is a circular loop, with a long and wide shank, which bends to join the head. There is a shallow incised groove down the reverse of the shank. The head is broken, and only a fragment survives. It would once have been a circle. At the junction where the shank meets the head are two parallel pronounced vertical ridges. The button element, the head, has broken off either side of these ridges. The breaks are worn.
\nButton and loop fasteners are of British Iron Age tradition, which continued into the Roman period. A heavy-duty, cast copper-alloy strap fitting from a horse harness. The object comprises a large oval ring, which expands in width to the base. The upper part of the ring is damaged, as the metal has torn through. Below this wider expanded area there is a rectangular strap loop. The loop itself has a squared section. The metal is a mid greenish-brown colour and is slightly pitted.\u00a0 These object probably date from the late Iron Age to Roman period.

A cast copper-alloy Late Iron Age belt or strap mount, most probably part of horse harness or wagon fittings. It is composed of a large, circular ring with a D-shapes section. Soldered inside the ring is a figure-of-eight design, bound in the centre by a large knop. This design is a characteristic openwork decoration that consists of a typical Celtic double-eye ornament. One of the inner rings has been slightly torn. The metal is pitted and a dark greenish-brown colour. There is a knop extending up from either end of this element. The knops have faceted uprights, with a rounded knopped tops; they are circa 9.3mm in height. Extending up from the centre of the part cylinder is a further extension, with a large loop on the top. The loop is set at a right angle to the part cylinder and it is circular, with a flat circumference. The loop measures 15.5mm x 8.5mm x 2.3mm. \r\nThe metal is a mid brownish-green colour and it is pitted. The loop is formed from a projecting strip of copper alloy, which has a right-angle bend just behind the head, the strip then forks open and would have formed a triangular loop. The loop has broken and the breaks are worn. The entire surface is slightly pitted, but much of the original surface survives. The front face of the slide consists of an oval plate with raised and pinched pointed ends. The points have shallow arrises and there is a large dominant design in the centre. The design features a large incised circle, with a raised circle inside that. The circle then features a chip-carved design of a cross, which is raised. The cells around the arms of the cross would once have been enamelled but this has now been lost. But traces can still be seen which indicate that the quarters were coloured red and green alternately. The reverse of the main plate is flat and has a rim. Projecting out from behind the tips are the remains of the rectangular loop of the strap slide. Only the stumps of copper alloy survives. The metal is a dark brownish-green mottled colour and is pitted. This strap slide is similar to others that have been found in Yorkshire and the North-east. It is similar to PAS database No: YORYM-40B2C1. It survives in a very good condition. The toggle survives in a poor condition. The object has been cast in one piece. The toggle is shaped rather like the head of a hammer-head shark or dumbbell. That is to say the main body of the toggle is cylindrical and either end has been capped by a circular rove. In the centre of the main body of the toggle there is a raised step or \u2018block\u2019 in the copper alloy equal in diameter to the roves. The rove and end caps my have been decorated, but the surface is heavily corroded and pitted, so no detail can be seen. \r\nThe arms (between the central block and the roves) have varying degrees of wear evident from the thickness of the metal cylinder. These wear patterns are situated in precisely the areas where contact would occur when the toggle head was engaged. It is likely a leather strap would have wrapped around this section of the toggle, therefore causing the wear. \r\nExtending out from the central block is the remains of the triangular attachment loop, which extends downwards from the central block of the toggle; it has been cast integrally to the main body of the toggle. It has largely broken off and only a worn stump remains. \r\nThe toggle survives in a poor condition and much of the original surface is missing. The metal is a mid greyish-green colour. \r\nIt is likely that this toggle would have been used for fastening bags, clothes or straps. Similar toggle have been recorded onto the PAS database, database number: BERK-FA25F5 and SF-3326E3. SUSS-D17D34 found near Upper Beeding (West Sussex) is a very similar parallel for this piece, it can be seen the PAS Annual Report 2005\/6, p37. A study of the literature produced no direct parallel. MacGregor (1976) states that at the time of writing only nine of these had been recorded, this number may have increased over the last 33 years. Some of the other examples are described as openwork triskel with a central boss, this design is slightly different. This example is probably of Iron Age date. Their purpose is not known.\r\nIt has a circular openwork frame, with three C-shaped loops (each terminating at both ends with a bulb), all joined twisted together. There is a depression in the centre. On the reverse of this design are three attachment lugs, all now broken. The handle\/stem is missing. The edge of the frame has a rounded section. The metal is a dark greenish-brown colour. Another example was recorded in the Halliday Archive (Yorkshire Museum) having been found by a detectorist Near Scarborough (North Yorkshire), in 1997. The front face of the slide consists of a circular cup which appears to have lost its central setting, possible a stone or enamel work. Projecting out from the reverse is the rectangular loop of the strap slide. The metal is a light brownish-green mottled colour and is pitted. This strap slide is similar to others that have been found in Yorkshire and the North-east. It survives in a very good condition. The dot stands proud of the enamelled ring, which is a mid brownish-red colour. \r\n On the reverse is an open rectangular loop, which is set into the otherwise flat surface. The loop is infilled with corroded iron. The metal is corroded and much of the original surface has been lost. This would have been enamelled but the enamal does not survive. Attached to the reverse of the plate are two plate lugs, one is broken. These are pierced to hold a pin or ring fitting. \r\nWild suggests that button-and-loop fastener are more likely to be Roman in date than Iron Age, possibly dating from circa AD 150 \u2013 260. The metal is a light greyish-green colour and slightly pitted.
