Modern token; struck copper alloy gaming token dating from the latter 19th century. The token is a half sovereign piece produced by the Lauer in Nuremburg. It has the old head of Queen Victoria which was used on official coins from 1897-1901 so it seems likely that this token is of similar date.

A Post Medieval lead alloy (tin) "American plantations token" minted under James II for use in the American plantations, dating c. 1688. This token was valued at one 24th of Spanish real, or one and a half farthings.
The obverse of the coin shows James II on horseback with the legend IACOBVS II D G MAG BRI FRAN ET HIB REX. The reverse shows four crowned shields of England, Scotland, France and Ireland linked by chains and the legend VAL 24 PART REAL HISPAN.
In August 1688 John Holt, agent for a number of tin mines petitioned the King for the right to produce tin tokens …

A Post Medieval 17th century AD traders token probably issued from John Pemell from Lewes, East Sussex. The surface of the token has been abraded severely and it is difficult to discern the issuer in this case. However, due to its similarities within another recorded on the PAS database, it is likely that this is the correct association (cf.: SUR-D33F35).

"I have examined an object reported found at "Darrington", West Yorkshire. The object is a piedfort or piéfort version of the coin-type known as the denier of the counts of Blois-Chartres. The reference to the coin is J. Duplessy, Les monnaies françaises féodales (2004) no. 585. This was the last of the anonymous Blois denier series (coins that do not name an individual count) and the only one of them for which there are known examples of piedforts, as several of this type have been recorded. Lead alloy biface discoidal Post Medieval token. The obverse has the capitalised initials TH (Powell type 2), whilst the reverse has a bird (Powell type 18) with head lowered and large raised tail feathers. Tokens with initials usually date from the late 16th to early 18th century and are much more prevalent in more southern counties. Dimensions 20mm diameter, thickness 3.4mm, weight 8.26g.

Obverse depicts two pistols crossed within an inner circle, reverse depicts initials P / I . I .The token has been neatly pierced on the obverse at 12 o'clock within the inner circle, directly above the point at which the two pistols cross (on the reverse this is directly through the central P).

A 17th century lead bi-face token of Powell type 29 / 16 (names / shields) issued by Thomas Mayne, a grocer of Canterbury, dated on the token 1641. Williamson (1889 : 389) Kent no.590.
Obverse: THO / MAYNE / [C]ANT in three lines, all within a scribed circular border. Reverse: shield bearing the grocers' arms with date 1641 above.
Diameter 13.7mm, thickness 1.7mm, weight 1.6g.
Thomas Mayne went on to produce copper-alloy tokens. A farthing in 1654 (W. Kent no.68) and a halfpenny token in 1664 (W. Kent no.67).
