A copper alloy thimble of the earlier post medieval period, probably about AD 1500-1600. The thimble has a series of punched oval pits, possibly in a right-hand spiral. There are also pits on the shallow domed crown but these are indistinct, obscured by corrosion and damage. The open end rim is incomplete, whilst the crown has been damaged and holed. The sides of thimble are fairly straight, only slightly tapering towards the crown. The thimble has an inner metal sleeve, or perhaps a second thimble stored inside. At the dome, only the inner layer of metal survives, the outer layer of the walls projecting above the height of the inner crown. The object has a height of 16.60mm, and a maximum diameter of 18.61mm. It weighs 6.03g. The thimble is similar to examples on pages 35 - 39 of Read (2018), Metal Sewing-Thimbles Found in Britain. It is covered with concretion making details of the pits and decoration difficult to see.
