STRAP FITTING

Unique ID: NARC979

Object type certainty: Certain

The front sheet of a two piece or composite type strap end; sub-rectangular in plan with the corners of the end furthest away from the strap slanted on the diagonal, the point expanded into a terminal knop which has been broken, but may have been of the trefoil type; the short side at the attachment end is straight and has a single central fixing hole very close to the edge; the long sides are parallel. The reverse of the entire length of the plate has been keyed using short diagonal incised strokes and the grey/white remains of the glue or cement used is evident on approximately one third of this keyed area. The long sides are very minutely 'crimped' suggesting that the metal may have been cut from a larger sheet.

Notes:

As Egan and Pritchard 659 except that the attachment edge is straight on this find

Class: strap end
