A complete copper-alloy annular buckle of medieval date, c.AD 1150 -1450. The buckle comprises a circular frame with rectangular cross-section and a circular sectioned pin remains looped around the frame. No constriction is present and the object is undecorated.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 17.2mm in diameter, 2.6mm thick and weighs 1.6g.
Egan and Pritchard (2002, p.64-65) state that "a constriction on a single frame to limit the movement of the pin is generally an indication of a brooch rather than a buckle" therefore suggesting this example is a buckle. This is however not always the case.
