THIMBLE

Unique ID: NARC637

Object type certainty: Certain

An open ended ring type sewing thimble, with thin even walls with no evidence of seams, probably constructed by stamping a sheet of metal into the desired shape. An incised border line runs around the walls at both top and bottom, in-between which is a spiral of 4-5 lines deep rectangular punching. No exact parallel has been found but similar examples occur on the Finds Research Group 700-1700 Data sheet 9. The diameter ranges from 14.81 at one end to 17.82 at the other
