Decorated body sherd of Black burnished Ware of Roman date. The breaks are old. Length 55mm, width 52mm and 6mm thick. Weight 21.83g.

The sherd is decorated with horizontal wavy lines within a zone defined by an upper and lower horizontal groove. Probably wheel thrown and tempered with fine sand quartz.

Notes:

Durotrigan Black Burnished Ware and later Romanised versions of the fabric were made around Poole Harbour and on the Isle of Purbeck from c. 50 BC until after AD 400. A later wheel thrown version of Black burnished Ware was produced in the Thames Valley.
