A cast copper alloy buckle frame of post-medieval date, about AD 1660 - 1720. The buckle is a double looped sub-rectangular shoe buckle with rounded edges and slight internal swellings where the pin would sit. The separate central spindle is iron. The pin is missing, and the chape tapers from the bar, has a narrow waist and then a rounded end. The button is missing, but the hole is filled with corrosion. The buckle is curved in profile, probably suggesting a function as a shoe buckle. Whitehead (1996, page 97, nos 600-601) suggests a date of 1660-1720 for the first such buckles. The buckle has a brown patina. It is 26.9mm long, 16.9mm wide and 5.4mm thick. 2.94g.
