Very worn copper alloy fragment, probably from a post-medieval (1500-1700) spur, possibly a rowel spur. The piece appears to be the end section of one of the arms which includes the expanded oval or heart shaped terminal plate with two circular holes through it for attaching the spur to the wearer's boot. Both holes are broken through. The is a slight collar between the terminal and remains of the spur arms, eparated from the terminal by an incised line on the front. The arm is oval in section and very worn with a worn break at the end. Overall it measures 26.7mm long, 9.2mm wide, 2.3mm thick and weighs 1.13g.
While similar to spur armed terminals recorded on the database, such as HAMP-062E61, LIN-AF1B71 and WMID-E1F6B5 this piece is much less robust. However it is clearly very worn and may have previously been thicker and wider. See also Read (1995, 156; no. 1053).
