Roman, possibly, stud or handle: The copper alloy stud has a circular head with a slightly domed head. The underside is also slightly convex with an integral conical with concave sides. The base of the conical has a circular perforation which is filled with iron. The surface of the stud is abraded and has traces of a blue/green patina, otherwise the surface is abraded. The stud measures 16.85mm long, the head are 13.58mm diameter, and weighs 5.95g.
The stud may date to the Roman period, studs are common at this time, but a comparison cannot be found for this shape. It is the patina that suggests a Roman date. However it may date to the Post Medieval period and is a type of handle.
