A fragment of a cast lead alloy artefact, possibly a candle holder of Post-Medieval date, AD 1500 - 1800, or even later. The object could also be a vessel spout or a ferrule.
The remaining portion of tube is broken at both ends, is cylindrical and tapers slightly. There is a slightly raised ridge around the interior surface, close to the narrower end.
The outside is decorated with three moulded, circumferential ridges spaced equidistantly. The central ridge is broad; the flanking ridges are narrower. Between the ridges is a floral design of shield shaped leaves, each leaf with a central rib and a number of angled veins from the rib to the edge. The base of all these leaves meets the broad, central rib, resulting in the rows of leaves being mirror images of each other. There appears to be no decoration on the small portion of metal surviving outside the narrower ridge at the broad end of the cylinder. The fragment has a patchy, cream coloured patina. It is 32.4mm long and 23.7mm in diameter. It weighs 28.01gm.
Though no exact parallel has been found yet, the shape and style is similar to other lead alloy candlesticks such as CORN-F86F80 and YORYM-215DD0.
