Post Medieval (mid 16th to 17th centuries) dress hook: The body of the dress hook is sub-circular in plan with moulded decoration. The decoration has a '+' with four perforations or conical cells in each angle. This is bordered by a beaded edge. The reverse of the body is flat and undecorated. The upper edge of the body has an integral rectangular loop. The loop allows the dress hook to be stitched to the garment. Integral to the lower edge of the body is the hook, which is incomplete. In profile the dress hook is bent, forming a wide curve, and this is probably due to damage rather than intent. The surface of the dress hook has abraded green coloured surface and patches of red copper corrosion. The dress hook measures 28.81mm long and 16.35mm wide across the body. It weighs 1.71g.
Read (2008) classifies this type as Class E, Type 3, for example No. 370, which he dated to the to the first half of the 16th century, and Margeson (1993) illustrates a similar dated dress hooks, Nos. 71 to 75, and dates these types of objects to the late 16th to 17th centuries.
