An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy forked spacer for a composite strap-end (c. 1350-c. 1400).
It has a plain acorn knop with a collar dividing the acorn element from the two prongs. The incomplete prongs are flat and rectangular in cross-section and have a thickness of 1.2mm. There are faint 'file' marks on the prongs which are barely visible.
This spacer is drab brown with patches of a lighter brown patina. There is light green and off-white corrosion on the prongs. The breaks are old.
Height: 28.1mm; width: 8.9mm; thickness: 3.2mm. Weight: 1.11g.
A very similar spacer has been found in London and dated c.1350-c. 1400 (Egan and Pritchard 1991:144, fig. 94, ref: 680).
