An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman gilded disc, oval plate brooch with dark red glass inset, dating to 200-350 AD. The brooch is oval in plan with a large cone-shaped blue glass inset in the centre, although this has suffered damage to approximately 25% of the glass. Around the central setting is a recessed field decorated with wavy linears around the circumference and gilded. The outer rim is slightly raised. On the reverse the pin lug and catchplate are retained. A direct comparison can be seen in Hattatt (2007:364) no. 1210.
