An incomplete copper-alloy Iron Age La Tene I/B, Type IBc, bow brooch. It is missing its spring coil, foot and pin due to old breaks. The bow is D-shaped in section, slightly arched and leaf-shaped in form. It tapers at both ends to narrov cylindrical projections that would have formed the spring coils and foot. Traces of possible grooved decoration are perhaps present on the front face of the bow, but this is uncertain due to the preservation of the object. It has a worn dark green patina and measures 27.62mm in length, 11.62mm in width, 2.25mm in thickness, and 2.99g in weight.
This is an Iron Age La Tene I or B brooch and can be further defined as a La Tene IBc brooch due to the form of the bow. It finds parallels in examples published by Hull and Hawkes (1987: pl. 32), in Hattatt (1989: nos. 1447, 1447a), as well as recorded through the PAS database from Suffolk (CORN-1A86F4, SF-7CCE67) and elsewhere (e.g. BUC-E0D317, HAMP-12B648 or SUR-1247F4). This brooch is of 4th-3rd century BC date, c.400-275 BC.
